Dave Allen – Demolition of an Eyesore (B/W Selection)

Still a bit undecided between colour and b/w. If it’s going to be b/w then these are my favourites.

I’ve been working on the words that will appear next to the photos to explain the story. Here’s a first draft:

“These images were produced by Dave Allen in response to a brief to ‘photograph landscape within 100 yards of your home’.

Dave was very interested in a particular part of the local landscape. He had campaigned for months about a local eyesore in the nearby town centre; a huge derelict building that had been empty for years.

He had distributed leaflets to local shops and businesses and received support from his local MP and council members. (as we’ve discussed, I’ll include some of the leaflets and correspondence as part of the exhibit)

In February this year came the good news that the building was to be demolished and replaced with something new. Dave’s photographs record the destruction of the building, from the first arrival of equipment and vehicles on the site to the final image of unrecognisable debris.”

I remembered when you showed the B&W collection to the course and believe it was unamimous that B&W worked. It made the images look like they could be in blitz. In fact wasn’t there talk of you maybe photo-shopping a Spitfire or something into the image?
